Khalid Celebrates ‘Free Spirit’ Release With “Talk” Performance on ‘Fallon’

We first heard Khalid‘s Disclosure-produced lead Free Spirit single “Talk” back in February, a fitting month to be introduced to a song about a relationship with communication problems. Now, just as Khalid’s sophomore album hits streaming services, we have another way to experience the track by way of Jimmy Fallon.
Thursday night, the Grammy nominee celebrated Free Spirit‘s release with a Tonight Show-ified performance of “Talk.” Unfortunately, there’s no assist here from The Roots, but Khalid and his band more than hold their own. Catch the performance in full up top.
The album, which is also accompanied by a short film of the same name, features a sprinkling of collabs including cuts with John Mayer and SAFE. Speaking with Apple Music, Khalid described the 16-track American Teen follow-up as simply “different as fuck, bleep out the fuck.”
Earlier this week, fans hit select theaters for the premiere of the short film, directed by Emil Nava from a story co-crafted by Khalid himself. The short is meant as a “special companion film” to the album and stars Khalid, Judah Lang, Dizzy Face, Edi Gathegi, and more. Mercifully, Khalid has now made the 46-minute short film available on YouTube:
This week also saw the unveiling of this year’s Billboard Music Awards nominees, a distinct group featuring Khalid in multiple categories. He’s up for Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, Top R&B Album, and more.
