Kim Kardashian’s Support for ‘Making a Murderer’ Subject Reportedly Won’t Help Clemency

Written by on October 9, 2019

Kim Kardashian has fought for people behind bars in the past, but her support for Making a Murderer subject Brendan Dassey reportedly won’t help his clemency bid, TMZ reports.

Dassey, one of the men arrested for the 2005 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach, had a handwritten letter of his addressed to Wisconsin governor Tony Evers go viral recently. His letter was released as part of a website that contained a list of documents related to the case, and Kardashian retweeted the handwritten letter urging Evers to read it.

As TMZ reports, Evers is unphased by Kardashian’s support for Dassey, who was just 16 at the time of Halbach’s murder. A representative for the governor explained that he is aware that Kardashian asked him to read the letter, but it will not impact how the clemency bid will be taken into consideration.

Dassey was portrayed as a victim in Making a Murderer, someone who was not capable of such violence. He received a life sentence after being convicted of first-degree murder, mutilation of a corpse, and second-degree sexual assault. His uncle, Steven Allan Avery, was also convicted of first-degree murder two years after he was released from prison for a sexual assault and attempted murder charge he was exonerated of.

Earlier this year, Kim Kardashian was responsible for freeing 17 inmates with low-level drug offenses in 90 days.
