L.A. City Council Dragged Over Vote Asking MLB to Make Dodgers World Series Champs

Written by on January 17, 2020

The L.A. City Council will likely vote on a resolution within the next week to determine if they should urge the MLB to retroactively award the Dodgers with 2017 and 2018 World Series titles in wake of the cheating scandal that has tainted the victories of the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox, the Los Angeles Times reports

“This is an equity and justice thing,” said Councilman Gil Cedillo, who has Dodger Stadium as part of his district. “Who was the best team in 2017? Who was the best team in 2018? It was the Dodgers. They got beat by teams that were cheating.” The Red Sox are still under investigation for allegedly stealing signs during the 2018 season, but considering their manager at the time was Alex Cora, a prominent figure in the Astros’ cheating situation, things aren’t looking great for them either.

Cedillo confirms that this resolution doesn’t come at the request of either the Dodgers or residents of his district, which explains why people have responded to this report by questioning if this matter deserves more attention than other pressing concerns.
