Lace-Up with These Under the Radar Monochrome Sneakers

Written by on January 29, 2020

Monochrome staples are an essential part of any footwear rotation, so we took a look at recent releases that flew under the radar to give your selection a welcomed update.

When it comes to black and white sneakers, silhouette is more important than ever, highlighting the finer details of the shoe while emphasising each layer and overall shape. Converse executes this effortlessly with their Twisted newcomer; combing elements from the Chuck Taylor All Star, Pro Leather, One Star and ERX260 models to create an artistic representation of their iconic history. In its black on white colourway, each borrowed detail stands out without making the mashup too much to handle. For those seeking a more retro design approach, the New Balance 530 is the perfect throwback. Doing what NB does best, this leather and mesh fixture combines every style with modern tech, so a classic white finish your Dad would be proud of.

Nike and UNDERCOVER are known for going the extra mile to offer radical updates to Swoosh fan favourites, and their latest collaboration is no different. This time around, the React Presto takes the spotlight with a technical upgrade that welcomes speckled uppers and flecked trial laces for a bold utilitarian aesthetic complemented in an all-black finish.

Jun is back with another Nike collab, this time creating his very own take on the React Presto. Set to land in a trio of colourways, this UNDERCOVER edition looks to the galaxy beyond to create a more technical version of the shoe, complete with a more aggressive React-equipped midsole than usual. Starry speckled uppers and flecked trail laces complete the look, which rockets Jun’s ongoing partnership with the swoosh to a whole new dimension. Not much needs to be said about the Nike Air Max Plus 3’s new triple white colouring. This colourway takes a step back from the gradient looks that are commonplace on the silhouette and perfectly encapsulates 20 years of the OG Air Max Plus.

Synonymous with Californian style, Vans generally maintain their classic, minimal styles. The Sk8-Hi Reissue Cap, however, does the complete opposite, bringing elongated heel overlays, lateral side zips, exposed stitching, polka dot laces, and sidewall branding to the original shape. Last but by no means least is the Nike Blazer Mid 77, maintaining its classic suede and leather construction for a premium feel. Built for all occasions, this timeless colourway ticks all the boxes with a minimal design approach.

Take a look at all of the aforementioned sneakers below, which you can shop now via each silhouette’s respective retailer.
