Lady Gaga Sends Love to Fellow Grammy Winner Cardi B: ‘You Deserve Your Awards’

Lady Gaga gets it.
Tuesday, the nine-time Grammy winner came through with a public message of enthusiastic support for fellow 2019 winner Cardi B. “It is so hard to be a woman in this industry,” Gaga said when sharing a photo of the two from this weekend’s ceremony, where Cardi made history by taking home Best Rap Album for her studio debut Invasion of Privacy.
By Gaga’s assessment, Cardi is more than deserving of the accolades and should be touted for her artistic bravery. “Let’s celebrate her fight,” Gaga told fans. “Lift her up [and] honor her.”
Before deactivating her Instagram, Cardi reflected on the win while addressing the criticism some have ludicrously hurled her way. “I’m seeing a lot of bullshit today, and I saw a lot of shit last night,” she said. “And I’m sick of this shit. I worked hard for my motherfuckin’ album.”
Cardi and Gaga both recently contributed their support to the Recording Academy‘s new Producer & Engineer Inclusion Initiative. Katy Perry, Post Malone, Fall Out Boy, and 2 Chainz are also among the artists who co-signed the Academy’s Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion’s push for “any entity or individual” with hiring power to help reverse the findings of a recent USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative study. According to the study, just two percent of producers and three percent of engineers/mixers in popular music are women.
