LeBron James Issues Promise to Lakers Fans: ‘The Spell Won’t Last Much Longer’

Written by on March 25, 2019

The Los Angeles Lakers‘ five-year playoff drought was supposed to come to an end once LeBron James came aboard. The confidence of Lakers fans stems from the fact that history has shown us that James doesn’t miss the playoffs. The last time LeBron didn’t compete in postseason play was in his second NBA season, back in 2005.

Following a 2018-19 campaign where James missed 17 straight games with a groin injury, the Lakers found themselves in a hole too difficult to dig themselves out of after going 6-11 in that stretch. On Friday, LeBron reflected on the disappointing season shortly after the Lakers were officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 111-106 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

“Obviously, it’s been a tough season for all of us,” James said, per CBS Sports. “It’s not what we signed up for. Throughout the year, things happened. Suspensions, injuries, things of that nature. And just not being able to play sustainable basketball for 48 minutes. But you don’t even try to wrap your head around it, you just keep pushing.”

After giving himself some time to think about the team’s unfortunate circumstance, James took to social media to reassure Lakers fans that the team’s playoff drought will come to an end soon. “Believe me! Promise #LakerNation the spell won’t last much longer,” he wrote. “I swear. The marathon continues!”
