Library Security Guard Fatally Stabbed After Asking Patron to Turn Down His Music

Written by on February 20, 2020

A library security guard was fatally stabbed on Tuesday after she had asked the suspected killer to turn down the music playing through his earphones.

According to NBC New York, the incident occurred at around 2 p.m. at the Finklestein Library in Spring Valley, New York, where 52-year-old Sandra Wilson had worked as a guard for more than a decade. Police say Wilson had approached Blanchard Glaudin, 25, during her shift and requested he lower his music. The man reportedly became annoyed with the request and attacked Wilson with a 6-inch blade. Authorities say the suspect stabbed the woman multiple times before he tried to escape the third floor; however, two other patrons apprehended Glaudin and held him down until police arrived.

Wilson was then transported to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, where she was pronounced dead.

“A security guard, keeping others safe was viciously stabbed at the Finkelstein Memorial Library in Spring Valley, and she later died of her injuries,” State Sen. David Carlucci wrote on Facebook. “I am praying for the victim’s family in their time of grief. Many in our community visit the Finkelstein Memorial Library, and it’s a place I have taken my own children and have always felt safe. I am extremely upset over this act of violence that incited more fear and chaos in our close-knit community.”

Spring Valley Police Chief Paul Modica described the attack as a “random confrontation.” He also told reporters that Glaudin had previously lived in Florida, where “he had some run-ins” with the law.

Glaudin was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He is being held in Spring Valley without bond.
