Lil Baby samples a Tear for Fears classic on his new single “The World Is Yours to Take.”
Released Friday, the song—which is among the eight singles set to be featured as part of the official FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 soundtrack—samples the duo’s still-ubiquitous 1985 track “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” In a statement, Baby called this release a “special one” for him and also shouted out Budweiser, which has been designated as the “official beer” of the FIFA World Cup.
“It’s about the journey we’ve all been on over the last few years and celebrating what’s next,” Baby said in a press release. “When I started in music in 2017, I went all in on a dream that brought me to where I am now, and that’s what I want fans to feel when they hear the song. I hope it makes you feel like you’re walking out onto the pitch at the World Cup making moves toward your own dreams, whatever that means to you.”

In addition to a special performance of the track at the Budweiser Hotel during the upcoming tournament, which starts Nov. 20, current plans are for Budweiser and Baby to partner on an official video. The two will also be linking for the upcoming release of new takes on the track featuring other artists.
The Tears for Fears-enlisting new single follows this month’s “Detox,” the release of which also marked the announcement of an upcoming new album from Baby titled It’s Only Me. The album, cover art for which features a self-referential take on the frequently revived Rap Mt. Rushmore conversation, is set to arrive in October.
