Lil Pump Declares XXXTentacion the ‘2Pac of Our Generation’

Written by on June 20, 2019

Exactly one year after XXXTentacion was fatally shot in South Florida, fans and artists went to social media to honor the late rapper’s life and career.

Kodak Black paid tribute with the visual for “Malcolm X.X.X.,” Craig Xen reflected on X’s legacy in an interview with XXL magazine, and Lil Pump posted an emotional video in which cries while listening to X’s “Revenge” record.

Pump also took to Instagram to make a bold claim about X’s mark on hip-hop, comparing his fellow Floridian to the late rap icon 2Pac.

“Deadass though, X is the 2Pac of our generation,” he said in an Instagram post. “No cap.”

The declaration was, unsurprisingly, polarizing. Some fans agreed with Pump’s declaration, while others … well, not so much.

It’s also worth noting that X dismissed his comparisons to Pac during a January with DJ Akademiks. The media personality asked the rapper if he intended to expand outside of music—the way Pac did with acting. X immediately shot down the comparison, claiming he was superior to the late West Coast legend.

“I’m better than 2Pac, bro,” he said at the 0:30 mark. “Please don’t compare me to him. Please don’t. 2Pac can’t make rock music. 2Pac couldn’t do that. 2Pac didn’t do that. 2Pac was a dancer and a poet and a rapper.”
