Lil Uzi Vert Reportedly Wants A New Record Deal

Written by on April 1, 2019

In a bit of news that will be completely unsurprising to anyone who is patiently waiting for Eternal Atake to drop, Lil Uzi Vert seems to be having label issues. TMZ reports that the rapper is looking to renegotiate his contract with Generation Now.

An unnamed source who spoke to the website said that the current deal has left the rapper feeling “exploited” and that the label is refusing to cover studio costs. TMZ goes on to say that Uzi’s camp proposed a new deal that they believe is fairer to the Philly rapper. They also talked to Uzi’s friend and fellow rapper Nav about the problem.

The situation became so dire that Vert announced he was quitting music earlier this year. In spite of the hype around the album, he has still trotted out the idea that he has retired from music and toyed with the idea of stepping away from his career completely on more than one occasion. After a clip of Uzi in the studio made the rounds, he reminded fans that he was “happy and retired.”

Vert just shared new music, but even that single came with a side of trouble. The not-so-subtly named “Free Uzi” was pulled from streaming services due to copyright problems. Apparently, Uzi didn’t clear the use of G Herbo’s “Gangway,” which serves as the bedrock of the new track.

The label, for its part, said that they are holding up its end of the bargain and it is Uzi’s unwillingness to share completed songs and progress reports that is gumming up the album’s rollout.
