Most art is inspired by other art and sometimes the people who make this inspiration aren’t properly compensated. Yet, Lil Uzi Vert is taking the necessary steps to make sure the artist that inspired his “That Way” cover art doesn’t feel robbed.
The Korean artist who operates the hugeriver8 account on Instagram posted a picture of their art next to the “That Way” cover. It is clear from the pictures that one of these pieces was inspired by the other.
“I am very upset that I have to write such an article. I saw lil uzi vert’s latest album cover art and it was very similar to my painting. My picture was posted on my blog six years ago, and it is possible to use it for profile pictures or non-commercial purposes, but it is not allowed to use anything else,” the caption reads. “Now I’m very embarrassed and don’t want to let this go.”
Several followers started to tag Uzi in the comments which caught the rapper’s attention. Uzi wasn’t upset by the post. In fact, he liked the picture and responded with a comment claiming that he and his team will contact the artist so that they are financially compensated.
“Hey I’m not a mean person or a thief I get inspired a lot,” the comment reads. “If you want Money I will have my team contact and give you Money. Signed… Baby Pluto. P.S. You are a great artist.”
The creator of the “That Way” cover art, Detroitmir313/@artxstic, took to Instagram to dispel any speculation that they were upset at Uzi. The artist also revealed that they are looking for ways to contact the original artist so that they can send them money.
“No, I’m not mad at Uzi and yes I’m gonna make sure to make the original artist happy,” Detroitmir313 wrote on IG Stories.
