After months of anticipation, Baby Keem has finally released his debut album, The Melodic Blue, with features from Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, and Don Toliver.
In addition to dropping off the album, Keem shared the Jake Schreier-directed video for “Issues.”
Released via pgLang in collaboration with Columbia, Keem’s debut comes two years after his breakout project Die for My Bitch put the young MC on the map. The Melodic Blue features the previously released singles “Durag Activity” with Travis Scott and Keem’s Kendrick collab “Family Ties,” which dropped two weeks ago.
Keem also recently confirmed in an interview with Nadeska Alexis back in June that Kendrick was indeed his blood, saying that their relationship “goes beyond music.”
“Whenever I need anything regarding, like, life, and if I need some wisdom, then that’s who I go to, you know? That’s one of the first people I look towards, him and Dave Free,” Keem said.
In another interview with Complex back in 2019, Keem also spoke on the importance of an album versus a mixtape and says his debut would tell more of a story.
“A cohesive body of work that tells a story. That’s an album to me,” he said. “And Die for My Bitch is going back and forth too much between heartbreak and being angry. But it’s not telling the full story yet. Not yet.”
Judging by the cohesive sound of The Melodic Blue’s singles so far, Keem seems to have met that goal.
