It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, the follow-up to Kehlani’s 2017 studio debut SweetSexySavage, has arrived.
“It’s my parents’ story, articulated into mine, articulated into a gift for my daughter, so she knows where she comes from,” Kehlani told Zane Lowe last year when discussing the then-still-in-progress new chapter. “[It’s] a really heavy load to process while I’m pregnant…breaking down my mom when I’m about to be a mom.”
Bolstered by cover art that’s arguably among the best of the year thus far, the new album is 15 tracks strong and includes appearances by James Blake, Jhené Aiko, and more. The final song, “Lexii’s Outro,” comes just months after the death of Kehlani’s friend and previous collaborator.
Below, peep the back cover for It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, which Kehlani previously explained as being representative of the notion that perhaps the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, below:

Ahead of the album drop, Kehlani has shared a trio of “quarantine style” videos for the tracks “F&MU,” “Everybody Business,” and “TOXIC.” Revisit the most recent, directed by Hyphy Williams (a.k.a. Kehlani), here:
