NIGO has provided the first taste of his upcoming album.
The fashion icon returned this week with the ASAP Rocky-assisted “Arya,” the lead single off his highly anticipated project, I Know NIGO project. The track was teased earlier this week with an AWGE-produced trailer, featuring Rocky, Lil Uzi Vert, and Pharrell, who also serves as the album’s executive producer.
The track comes less than a year after NIGO announced he had signed to Steven Victor’s record label, Victor Victor Worldwide. Following NIGO’s Kenzo debut at Paris Fashion Week on Sunday, Victor spoke to Complex about the multi-hyphenate’s upcoming album and revealed NIGO initially planned to do a two-track EP, as he was initially hesitant to do a full-length project.
“At first, it started off where he was like, ‘Yeah, let’s do a single or two songs,’” Victor recalled. “And I wasn’t going to push it, so I was like, cool let’s do a two-song EP. Then I started reaching out to different artists, because originally it was supposed to be just Pharrell and maybe Pusha, but then I started reaching out to different people, and everyone was just like, ‘Yes!’ So I suggested we make it a full-length thing. Then it was like, ‘Alright, let’s just do five songs.’ Then five songs became more songs, and more songs became more songs. It was just super organic how it all came about. I think he’s in his zone, where he’s going for everything right now.”
Last month, NIGO announced the album’s featured artists, including Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Famlay, Lil Uzi Vert, Teriyaki Boyz, as well as Tyler, the Creator.
I Know NIGO, which marks NIGO’s first music project in two decades, is scheduled to arrive March 25, 2022. You can stream “Arya” now on Apple Music and Spotify.
