After finally confirming that their hotly anticipated project An Evening With Silk Sonic will officially arrive on November 12, Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars have dropped a new single from the album titled “Smokin Out the Window.” The duo also shared the track’s official music video.
The track was first confirmed after the duo announced on social media that their album would be arriving months earlier than anticipated, as the project was originally slated for a January 2022 release. “Smokin Out the Window” is the third single to be released from the project, and comes after the release of the critically-lauded “Leave The Door Open,” as well as their follow-up single “Skate.”
In an interview with Zane Lowe, Bruno Mars said that they decided to release “Skate” as the second single “because the sun is out.”
“I’m hoping everybody’s outside,” Bruno said. “Everybody’s at the pool, at the beach, barbequing, listen to some Silk Sonic.” He later added that when recording the track, “we wanted everyone to feel like they were floating and gliding, slipping and sliding. We’re very proud of this record.”
Anderson .Paak additionally spoke with Rolling Stone, saying that Silk Sonic almost didn’t happen at all. “I’m not sure we would have done it if it wasn’t for the pandemic,” he said. “It was tragic for so many people, but Bruno would have probably been on the road, me too — but we had to be here (in the recording studio) … So we’d just come here every night, have a drink, and we play what we love.”
