While accepting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year, Snoop Dogg delivered a speech in which he recognized some of his biggest supporters, including his parents, wife, Warren G, Dr. Dre, and, most importantly, himself.
“I wanna thank me,” Snoop told the crowd. “I wanna thank me for believing in me. I wanna thank me for doing all this hard work. I wanna thank me for having no days off.”
The statement went on to inspire the title of Snoop’s new studio album, I Wanna Thank Me—a 22-track project that includes the previously released singles “Let Bygones by Bygones,” “One Blood, One Cuzz,” “Countdown,” “Do It When I’m in It,” and the title track. Snoop also recruited a diverse mix of guest artists to assist: There’s Mustard, Rick Ross, Ozuna, Wiz Khalifa, Slim Jxmmi, Trey Song, Jermaine Dupri, and many, many more.
Earlier this week, Snoop spoke to the Fader about I Wanna Thank Me and shed more light on the meaning of the title.
“I wanna thank me—the many faces, styles, and versions of me, and the people that’s associated with me,” he explained. “A lot of shit is put into making me. It’s not just me who makes me, it’s the pieces, forces, and energy that’s created to make Snoop Dogg the superhuman that he is.”
I Wanna Thank Me is available now on Apple Music and Spotify. You can also check out part 1 of the project’s companion visual below.
