A severe case of laryngitis has forced Lorde to put her U.S. tour on pause.
The Grammy-winning singer announced the news Friday, shortly before she was scheduled to take the stage at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
“Connecticut — these past couple days I’ve been pushing through some horrendous laryngitis, and I regret to inform you that my voice hasn’t sufficiently recovered to be able to play the show for you tonight,” she said in a statement, as reported by WVIT. “I’m so, so sorry. I don’t take postponing a show lightly.”
She also postponed her Saturday night gig at the Anthem in Washington, D.C.
“I’m so, so sorry. I don’t take postponing a show lightly,” she told fans in an email. “I’ve tried everything, and unfortunately it’s physically impossible for me to sing much of the set. Please accept my sincere apologies. All well besides that, and absolutely frothing to party with you when I am able. Rescheduling info to come.”
The Connecticut and DC shows are now scheduled to take place on Aug. 25 and Aug. 29, respectively. Tickets to the original events will be honored for the new dates.
Lorde announced her world tour last June in support of her third studio album, Solar Power. The U.S. leg kicked off earlier this month in Nashville, and expected to resume Monday at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall. The tour will include stops and in Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, London, and Berlin.
