Luke Perry Can’t Get a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Until 2024

Written by on March 10, 2019

Luke Perry died Monday morning (Mar. 4) at the age of 52 after suffering a stroke. Following his death, there’s been an outpouring of support for the actor and former teen idol. Everyone from the cast of Riverdale to Molly Ringwald offered their condolences to his family. Despite all the love, TMZ reports it could be a while before Perry’s name shows up on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce explained that they’d definitely like to see Luke Perry get a star on the Walk of Fame, but deceased celebrities are only eligible after they’ve been dead for five years. Nominations for the Walk of Fame require a written statement from the celebrity to confirm they want a star, but regarding a dead celebrity, it’s up to their family to give their permission. His family will have to wait until Mar. 4, 2024 before they can approve his nomination for a star.

Perry will make his final on-screen appearance later this year in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which hits theaters on July 26. The scripts for the remaining episodes of Riverdale Season 3 have reportedly been tweaked to reflect Perry’s passing, although it’s not clear how many more episodes in which he’s set to appear. Production on the show was suspended for two days following his death.
