Mae Muller Gets Candid On Eclectic New Four-Tracker ‘Frankly’
Written by SOURCE on December 7, 2018
Rapidly rising singer Mae Muller is back to close out 2018 with her new EP, Frankly, which is out today. If you’re not familiar with Muller, just know that her previous singles have been pretty eclectic, varying between glossy R&B, indie-leaning soul music, as well as the odd pop song. Frankly, it seems, continues that trend and even expands on it.
The new EP kicks things off with some strong reggae inflections, particularly on the ska brass and half-time rhythms of “Busy Tone” and, to a lesser extent, “Read”. “Side Piece” then goes full R&B, with a slinky and futuristic production for Muller to lay overlay her seductive vocals. Closing out the EP is “Maybe”, which strips things right back with a minimal arrangement, more live instruments and a raw, soulful hook at its core.
