A man reportedly broke into Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez‘s office in Queens on Saturday, according to police.
Ocasio-Cortez‘s spokesman, George Tsourovakas, states that authorities have arrested Douala Hashi on suspicions that he trespassed into the representative’s office.
According to reports, the building’s security systems triggered police to respond to the scene. When they arrived, the suspect sprayed a fire extinguisher to create a “cloud condition.” Once the cloud dissipated, Hashi was seen holding a broken bottle before he entered a utility closet to hide. Police were able to coax Hashi outside and take him to nearby Elmhurst Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Afterwards, Hashi was placed under arrest and charged with criminal trespass, menacing, and criminal mischief.
Police describe Hashi as “incoherent” and “unstable” at the time of his arrest. Ocasio-Cortez was reportedly at her residence in Washington, D.C. at the time of the incident. She has not commented on the situation.
