A self-described “Pro-Life Spider-Man” was taken into custody by the authorities Tuesday after scaling the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco.
The climber, who goes by the name of Maison Des Champs on Instagram, climbed the 1,000-foot-tall skyscraper before he was detained Tuesday morning, per KTVU. He documented much of the journey on social media, in an effort to share his anti-abortion views.
The man, who climbed the building in about 2 hours, posted a clip to his account where he complained about people “killing babies” as he scaled the skyscraper. He also claims on his website, per KRON 4, that he scaled the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas—his hometown—to protest the COVID-19 lockdown in 2021.
SFPD Public Information Officer Robert Rueca shared in a statement Tuesday that officers were “flagged down by citizens at a commercial building.”
“Officers observed a male on the side of the building several floors up from the street ascending on his own power,” Rueca stated. “There were street closures in the immediate area. Medics and rescue personnel from the Fire Department arrived on scene to assist. Officers attempted to make contact with the climber to safely remove him from the building.”
The officer added that, at minimum, the climber will be arrested on “trespassing” charges. Police took him in at the top of the building at 10:50 a.m. The man, or someone running his account, posted to his Instagram Stories hours after he was taken into custody.
