Man Pleads Guilty in Young Greatness Murder Case

Written by on December 28, 2019

Two teenagers have pleaded guilty to the murder and robbery of New Orleans rapper Young Greatnessaccording to Nola.com.

On Dec. 16, 19-year-old Donny Maxwell pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter, armed robbery, obstruction of justice, conspiring to commit armed robbery, and conspiring to obstruct justice in connection to the 2018 shooting of Young Greatness.

Two months prior to Maxwell’s plea, 17-year-old Lovance Wix pleaded guilty to similar charges. Unlike Maxwell, Wix didn’t admit to killing Young Greatness: He only acknowledged firing an illegal firearm during the crime.

These two plea deals leave one alleged accomplice who hasn’t come to an agreement with authorities. As of Friday, 30-year-old Donald Reaux has pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and the same charges Wix and Maxwell have pled guilty to. Reaux is looking at a mandatory life sentence fighting the case.

Wix and Maxwell could serve 99 years for the armed robbery and 40 years for the manslaughter charges. They likely won’t get a severe sentence because of their plea. The two are now in jail awaiting sentencing.

Young Greatness was visiting New Orleans for a funeral when he was shot and killed in October 2018. The incident took place in a Waffle House parking lot. Reaux, Wix, and Maxwell were identified as suspects because of the establishment’s surveillance camera footage. The incident is described by the police as a botched robbery and it is unclear if the suspects knew Young Greatness before targeting him.
