NBC4 Washington reports Woody Harrelson punched an unidentified man following an altercation Wednesday night on the rooftop of the Watergate Hotel in Washington D.C.
The incident started when Harrelson confronted a man, who appeared to be intoxicated, because he was taking pictures of him with his daughter. According to The Guardian, Harrelson has three daughters, two in their 20s, and one in her teens. It’s unclear which one of his kids was with him when these photos were taken.
Harrelson allegedly asked the man to stop snapping pictures, and told him to delete the ones he had already taken. Their verbal dispute escalated when the man lunged at the actor “in an attempt to grab his neck.”
Police suspect Harrelson punched him in self-defense.
A witness confirmed that Harrelson’s response was due to being attacked by the man, who was later questioned by police in his hotel room. Harrelson will not be charged, however, the other man will likely face charges following the conclusion of an investigation. His identity will also be revealed at that time.
Harrelson is said to be in Washington D.C. filming a five-part limited series titled The White House Plumbers, which HBO’s website describes as “the true story of how Nixon’s own political saboteurs and Watergate masterminds, E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, accidentally toppled the presidency they were trying to protect.”
The series stars Justin Theroux, Domhnall Gleeson, Lena Headey, Ike Barinholtz, Judy Greer, and Kathleen Turner. A debut date has not yet been announced.
