Mark Hamill Will Be the Voice of Chucky in Upcoming ‘Child’s Play’ Remake

Written by on March 31, 2019

If you didn’t get enough of the demonic doll known as Chucky back in the ’80s, then you’re in luck because a remake is on the way

According to DeadlineMark Hamill, the Star Wars mainstay known for his repeated portrayals of Luke Skywalker, will return to the big screen, this time as the voice of Chucky in the upcoming Orion Pictures remake of Child’s Play

Hamill will join the cast that already includes Aubrey Plaza, which seems oddly fitting, Gabriel Bateman, and Brian Tyree Henry. The plot will follow the 1988 original centered around the demonic doll who’s hellbent on violently eliminating his targets.

Orion Pictures announced the news at WonderCon during a panel presentation, and shortly after published a YouTube video debuting Hamill’s Chucky voice, which is sufficiently creepy. The original Chucky, which just celebrated its 30th anniversary, was portrayed by Brad Dourif known for his appearance in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Hamill is an experienced voice artist, notably known for his role in 1992 playing Joker in Batman: The Animated Series as well as the feature film follow up Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. In addition to his stint in the DC Universe, he’s also played various voice acting roles in video games and other animated projects.

Lars Klevberg will be directing the upcoming remake, and spoke of his love for the original film in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last year. “Child’s Play was, and is, one of my all-time horror movies and it was one of my introductions to horror,” Klevberg explained. “I got the script [for the remake] and it was really really good, and I knew it was from the producers from It, and I jumped in immediately.”

Child’s Play is set to hit theaters on June 21.
