Marvel Bringing Live-Action ‘Ghost Rider’ and ‘Helstrom’ Series to Hulu

Written by on May 1, 2019

As we won’t be seeing any new Marvel shows on Netflix any time soon, Hulu has just ordered two live-action dramas from the comic giant, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ghost Rider and Helstrom will make their debut on the streaming service sometime in 2020. Much like interconnected universe created with Marvel’s Netflix shows, the series will create their own shared world.

Set near the Texas/Mexico border, Ghost Rider tells the story of Robbie Reyes, who is supernaturally bound to a demon after being consumed by hellfire. He unleashes vengeance upon those who have wronged innocent people. The show will be produced by Ingrid Escajeda (Justified), Paul Zbyszewski, and Jeph Loeb.

In addition, Variety has learned that Gabriel Luna, who has previously played the antihero on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., will star as the title character. The upcoming series will feature a new iteration of Ghost Rider with no connections to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Helstrom revolves around Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the children of a powerful serial killer. As told on the official site, “The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the worst of humanity—each with their attitude and skills.” The show will also be produced by Zbyszewski and Loeb.

Disney—aka the owners of Marvel—have a majority stake in Hulu, meaning these series are coming from the same company also rolling out directly-MCU-connected series on Disney+ about Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Loki, Vision, and more.

The Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios shows will join the set of Marvel series that are exclusive to Hulu. The animated stories of Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Monkey, and Tigra and Dazzler will receive their own mini-universe as well, leading up to an ensemble production titled The Offenders
