Masai Ujiri Will Not Be Charged Over On-Court Altercation After NBA Finals

Written by on October 23, 2019

Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri will not be charged in connection with an altercation that occurred on the court following the Raptors NBA Finals win.

Ujiri allegedly shoved an Alameda County officer twice when he attempted to bar Ujiri from the court, claiming that Ujiri did not have the proper credentials.

Witness accounts differ about what happened on the court and in the month’s since the officer involved reportedly considered filing a lawsuit. After representatives of local law enforcement and Ujiri met with the Alameda District Attorney on October 22, however, the DA shared that they would not to pursue any charges.

Ujiri has been nothing but tactful throughout the long investigation, repeatedly telling reporters that he would respectfully await the decision of the authorities.

“Honestly, I am going to leave all my comments until the whole investigation is done. I think that’s the fair way and the right way to operate when things like this do happen,” he said back in June. “So, I respect authority and I’ll wait until it happens.”

It is not clear what was said in the meeting, but clearly Ujiri’s case was strong enough — or the officer’s initial claims were weak enough — for all involved to drop it.
