Master P on Nipsey Hussle: ‘Everything He Got After He Died, He Deserved That Before’

Written by on June 8, 2019

Master P believes the recognition Nipsey Hussle received after death was something the L.A. rapper was entitled to while alive, People reports.

“Everything he got after he died, he deserved that before,” Master P told the outlet. “He could really make music. People know now. His music touches millions of people now. I had people say, ‘You know, I never listened to his music. It’s really good’. But you waited ‘til he died? It makes no sense.”

Master P and Nipsey were in the studio together two days before Nip was shot and killed. They were recording a song for the upcoming film I Got the Hook Up 2. He told People that both rappers wanted to make “street music with some soul and substance,” and what came of it was “Street Millionaire.” The song is set to release July 12, the same day as the premiere of the film. The track is also possibly the last thing Nip ever recorded.

“This was a talented brother who cared about the community and did a lot [for it],” Master P said. “This man was a star. His legacy is going to change so many lives.”

Master P—executive producer and star of the film, which is a sequel to 1998’s I Got the Hook Up—also believes his friend deserves more appreciation for his charity work and commitment to Lauren London and their kids.

“He took care of his kids and he took care of his girl,” Master P told People. “I do a lot in the community where he lived because of him. The marathon will continue. Through this project, we’ll be able to go back and take care of kids in the community and show them that it’s about doing what’s right, ‘Don’t worry if you’re not celebrated. Keep doing what’s right’.”
