Matthew McConaughey and Snoop Dogg Detail Weed-Filled Shoot for New Movie ‘The Beach Bum’

We have “great hedonism” in our future thanks to the release of Harmony Korine’s The Beach Bum.
That’s the promise from Matthew McConaughey, who joined co-star Snoop Dogg on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday to share a few words on the latest slice of whimsy from the always compelling Spring Breakers director.
“I think certain people in life are meant for each other,” Snoop said of the chemistry between himself and McConaughey, which is palpable even just in the trailer. “I think me and Matthew were meant for each other and it’s just, it’s supposed to be.”
From there, the delightfully meandering discussion turned to the development of their Moondog and Lingerie characters, respectively, as well as the previously reported swapping out of prop weed on set.
“When I first got to the set they was like, they had, like, a bunch of fake blunts and joints rolled up,” Snoop recalled. “I’m like, oh no, who is that for? That’s not for me!” After shooting their first scene together that was meant to feature an oregano joint, Snoop said he hilariously informed McConaughey that no such oregano was in sight.
In fact, at one point during filming, Snoop had McConaughey so high that he was crafting his own music between takes. “We made about seven songs that was for real, right, and he was so high, like, for the whole rest of the movie we kept touching back on those songs,” Snoop said. “Like, we would be just chilling and he would bring this song up and this song up, and I’m like, alright cool. We got the whole groove set so now everything is beautiful. But at the same time, he didn’t do none of the lines from the movie the first night.”
