Memphis Bleek Responds to Suge Knight’s Past Claim About Jay-Z Being Robbed

Written by on February 3, 2022

Memphis Bleek is calling cap on one Suge Knight’s claims about Jay-Z.

During a 2001 appearance on Last Call with Carson Daly, the Death Row Records boss was asked if he liked Jay’s music.

“I think Jay-Z is…he does what he do,” Knight said, prompting the audience to laugh. “Which is some good stuff, but you know.”

Daly noted Suge’s hesitant and vague answer, saying, “It doesn’t sound like you like him too much…have you ever met him?”

Suge admitted he was never introduced to the Roc-A-Fella founder and knew little about him—except for the time he was allegedly robbed during a trip to the West Coast.

“The only thing I know about Jay-Z is that he came to L.A. a few times, and Snoop [Dogg] and [Dr.] Dre told him that, ‘When you on the West Coast—you wrote a song for me—don’t worry ’bout nothing,” Suge recalled. “Next thing I know, he’s taped up, robbed, and gagged. … Out in L.A.”

It’s worth noting both Dre and Snoop were signed to Death Row before leaving the imprint in the mid- and late-’90s.

The decades-old clip began recirculating on Twitter this week, causing some fans to question whether Suge’s story was true.

Unsurprisingly, social media users were divided. But Bleek—one of the Roc’s first signees and Jay’s former hypeman—decided to refute Suge’s claims once and for all.

“Every cap in the world,” he tweeted with a series of headwear emojis.

Jay has not responded to the resurfaced clip.

Suge is serving a 28-year prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter, a charge that stemmed from a 2015 hit-and-run. He will be eligible for parole in summer 2037.
