Metro Boomin Calls for 21 Savage’s Freedom During ‘Tonight Show’ Performance With Gunna

Written by on February 12, 2019

Metro Boomin and Gunna showed fellow artists how to properly utilize a massive television platform to support 21 Savage against the should-be-abolished U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency on Monday’s Tonight Show.

The two were on hand to perform their Not All Heroes Wear Capes cut “Space Cadet.” During the performance, Metro artfully directed a masked orchestra while wearing a customized FREE 21 SAVAGE coat. As you’ll notice, Metro also made a point to keep the jacket’s message front and center when host Jimmy Fallon walked back out to thank them for appearing on the show.

Metro and Gunna’s televised call for freedom arrives following criticism surrounding the absence of an outright message of support for 21 during the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. While 21’s “Rockstar” collaborator Post Malone was spotted rocking a 21 Savage t-shirt backstage and Ludwig Göransson took a moment during his Record of the Year acceptance speech to say that 21 should have been there, support for 21’s battle was nowhere near prevalent enough during the broadcast.

21 also recently received televised support from Leslie Jones, who wore a FREE 21 SAVAGE t-shirt during the most recent episode hosted by Halsey:

A petition to ICE field office director Sean Gallagher calling for 21’s freedom has now amassed nearly 500,000 signatures. To add your name, click here.
