MGM Resorts to Close Down Buffets Over Coronavirus Concerns

Written by on March 11, 2020

Even under the best of circumstances buffets are kind of gross. And so it should come as no shock that, in a period where we’re seeing multiple events/locations/countries closed down or pushed back everyday due to coronavirus-related health concerns, that some of those grab-what-you want eateries would also cease operations.

Of course, we’re not talking about every buffet. Just the ones at the Las Vegas-based MGM resorts. According to Fox Business, the chain will shut down buffets at all their Sin City properties, including: ARIA, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, The Mirage, Luxor and Excalibur, starting on Sunday, March 15. Gorge while you can.

A spokesperson for the resort said that these changes will be re-evaluated on a weekly basis.

There have been four confirmed cases of the virus in Nevada.

Local ABC affiliate KTNV took it a step further and asked several other casinos if they plan to follow suit. Here’s what the Culinary Union had to say:

“Now, as the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread, we are working very hard to monitor the effects on Culinary Union members. The Culinary Union is sending requests to all of the casino companies to meet immediately and bargain on the effects of the coronavirus outbreak. We are evaluating the coronavirus situation daily. It is our top priority and we will keep you updated.”

In any event, starting this Sunday, tourists can return to their hometowns simply destitute instead of being destitute and also like eight pounds heavier.

After news of the closures were announced, people took to Twitter to throw in their two cents.
