Miami Heat Reportedly Saving 2021 Cap Space in Hopes of Getting Giannis Antetokounmpo

Written by on November 29, 2019

It’s no secret that a lot of teams in the NBA would jump at the chance to have Giannis Antetokounmpo on their side, but it looks like the Miami Heat are going the extra mile. With the Bucks forward slated to move on from Milwaukee come 2021 when he’s an unrestricted free agent, Miami Herald reports that Miami is actively looking to preserve max cap space to allow a run for Antetokounmpo.

“Miami wants to preserve max cap space that summer for a run at Giannis Antetokounmpo or, secondarily, a few other targets including Victor Oladipo,” Barry Jackson wrote for the Herald, indicating that the Indiana Pacers shooting guard is also part of the plan. While countless teams will likely come for Antetokounmpo when he’s a free agent, few will be going to the lengths Miami Heat reportedly are willing to.

The Bucks veteran, who has been with the team since 2013, was named the league’s Most Valuable Player at the end of the 2018-19 season. In other words, he’ll have his pick of any time in the league, making it all the more important that Miami Heat pull out all the stops for him. However, there is still a chance he could stay with the Milwaukee Bucks, just to further throw a spanner into the proceedings.
