Michael Bay Rips ‘Sh*t’ CGI in His New Movie ‘Ambulance’

Speaking on his upcoming action thriller Ambulance, Michael Bay said most of the film’s stunts were shot in real-time, but admitted he was disappointed by a few of the CGI shots in the final product.

“All those explosions and cars flipping, that’s all real,” the blockbuster director told European cinema outlet Les Cinémas Pathé Gaumont in a recent interview. “That’s all live, real, ratchets. It looks very dangerous [and] it could be very dangerous if you don’t know what the hell you’re doing. Most of it is real stunts. There’s very few blue screen shots in the movie. There’s not a lot of CGI. Some of the CGI is shit in this movie. There’s a couple shots that I wasn’t happy with, okay? Alright.”

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg ended up retweeting Bay’s comments with an inquisitive eyebrow raise emoji, with many of his followers speculating that Sandberg was calling out the Transformers director for potentially disregarding the work of visual effects artists in blockbuster films. The tweet has since been deleted.

Ambulance stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as adoptive brothers whose attempt at a high-stakes bank robbery goes awry. The film also stars Eiza González as a paramedic who gets wrapped up in the heist. The film stars Wale as well, who plays a character named Castro. Ambulance hits theaters on April 8.
