The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Michael Keaton will be reprising his role as Bruce Wayne for another DC property: Batgirl.
It will be the second time Keaton revisits the role that he assumed in 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns. After months of speculation, it was later confirmed that he would be appearing as the Caped Crusader in the Ezra Miller-led The Flash. At the time, THR mentioned Keaton could be included as Batman in several upcoming DCEU projects, a move that would mirror Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Keaton was spotted in a suit with noticeably grey hair on the set of The Flash in June, leading many to believe that he will be playing a version of Bruce relative to his own age. However, the teaser trailer shown during DC FanDome earlier this year teased a silhouette of the famed cowl.
The Flash director Andy Muschietti fanned the flames even further by posting a captionless photo of what appears to be Keaton’s Batsuit with droplets of blood on the emblem.
Batgirl stars Leslie Grace (In the Heights) as Barbara Gordon, Brendon Fraser, and J.K. Simmons returning to the part of Commissioner Gordon, which he played in Justice League. Batgirl is being directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who made a name for themselves following the release of Bad Boys for Life last year.
While a launch date for the HBO Max film hasn’t been announced yet, it’s currently shooting in London.
