Mike Hagerty, Character Actor and ‘Friends’ Star, Dead at 67

Mike Hagerty, a longtime character actor best known for his work on NBC’s Friends and HBO Max’s Somebody Somewhere, has passed away. He was 67. His cause of death has not been disclosed.
Bridget Everett, who played Hagerty’s daughter on Somebody Somewhere, confirmed the news Friday afternoon by posting a tribute on Instagram.
“With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles,” Everett wrote. “A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life. Mike, a devoted husband, is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty, her wife Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg. He will be sorely missed.”
HBO shared its condolences in a statement to Deadline.
“We are very saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Mike Hagerty,” HBO said. “A member of the HBO family for many years, his most recent role as Bridget Everett’s father in Somebody Somewhere showed his special talent for bringing heart to a performance. Mike was a joy to work with and brought warmth and kindness to all who knew him. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
An alum of Chicago’s Second City comedy troupe, Hagerty appeared in several sitcoms in the 1980s, including Cheers, Married… With Children, and Family Ties.
His extensive list of credits also includes episodes of Boston Legal, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community, CSI, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Martin, Entourage, ER, Ghost Whisperer, Glee, The Goldbergs, Grey’s Anatomy, Happy Endings, Medium, The Mindy Project, Mob City, Monk, Seinfeld, Shameless, The Wayans Bros. and the original Wonder Years.
As previously mentioned, Hagerty played building superintendent Mr. Treeger on NBC’s hit series Friends in the 1990s.
