Mindy Kaling Shares Macabre Prediction for ‘Office’ Characters

Mindy Kaling thinks that if the The Office reunion ever did really happen, it would be down one cast member. The accomplished showrunner, who served as a writer and castmember on the show for nine seasons, says that Ryan might have met a tragic end.
In an interview with Variety, Kaling said that her impulsive, obsessive, and occasionally maniacal character Kelly Kapoor might have killed her on-again, off-again boyfriend.
“There’s not an insignificant part of me that thinks that Kelly might be in jail. Crime of passion? The character just kept getting a little more and more unhinged,” she said. “I don’t wanna say that she murdered Ryan, but, like, I’m not convinced that he’s still alive in the world of The Office.”
Given the way the series ended, it makes a good bit of sense. The stakes of Kelly and Ryan’s toxic relationship rose throughout the show, ending with Ryan giving his partner’s baby an allergic reaction so that he could slip away and talk to her. Where else is there to go from there but toward more serious crimes?
If the show does return, however, Kaling is more than willing to jump back on board.
“I think that anything that [Greg Daniels] decided to do I would watch and love and want to help him with,” she said.
