Missing Canadian Teens Now Suspected of Double Murder

Written by on July 24, 2019

Two Canadian teens who were believed to have been missing are now wanted for murder.

On Tuesday, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed 19-year-old Kam McLeod and 18-year-old Bryer Schmegelsky are suspected of killing a road-tripping couple in northern British Columbia. The victims—Chynna Deese from the U.S. and Lucas Fowler from Australia—were discovered dead with gunshot wounds near a highway on July 15, shortly before McLeod and Schmegelsky were reported missing.

The RCMP discovered a burning pickup truck belonging to McLeod and Schmegelsky on Friday near Dease Lake in British Columbia. An unidentified man—believed to be between 50 and 60 years old—was found dead nearby. The teens are also considered suspects in his death.

“Kam and Bryer are no longer considered missing,” RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said, according to NBC News. “The RCMP are now considering Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky as suspects in the Dease Lake suspicious death and the double homicide of Lucas Fowler and Chynna Deese.”

Authorities are now asking the public to contact them with any information on McLeod and Schmegelsky’s whereabouts. They are also asking for any dash footage from drivers who have traveled along Highway 97 in the past week.

Stay tuned as more details about the case becomes available.
