Monica Breaks Up Fighting Fans: ‘I Ain’t Singing Knuck If You Buck’

Written by on April 7, 2023

At a recent performance in Washington D.C., Monica was forced to remind the rowdy crowd that they weren’t attending a Crime Mob Show.

During the latest stop on the R&B Experience Tour this week, Monica scolded a group of fighting fans by reminding them that she wasn’t on stage performing the Atlanta rap group’s 2004 track “Knuck If You Buck.” The incident took place as Monica delivered a rendition of her fan-favorite cut “Why I Love You So Much,” which was interrupted by a brawl breaking out in the crowd right in front of the R&B legend.

“I ain’t singing Knuck If You Buck,” she told fans after stopping her performance to call out the trouble makers. “Calm that shit down.”

For those who don’t remember the fight-starting anthem, I’ll leave it to Crime Mob member Princess to  remind you: “I think violence played a part in us growing up, just because that was what we saw at that time,” she told Complex in 2018. “So we—as music should be—you take in what’s around you, and you document it. That’s what classic songs are.”

After Monica’s initial request failed to reel in the unruly group, the R&B Singer offered to buy the shit-starters drinks in order to keep the peace among the thousands in attendance. That failed, too, which resulted in security taking matters into its own hands. To celebrate their removal from the concert venue, Monica fittingly performed her classic 2003 ballad “So Gone.”
