Multiple People Dead, Including Child, in Southern California Shooting

A gunman opened fire at an office complex in Orange, California on Wednesday at around 5:30 p.m. local time, The Los Angeles Times reports. Four people, including a child, were killed in the shooting.
The suspect has been taken into custody and hospitalized with injuries. A fifth person was also wounded. It’s currently unclear why the suspect, who’s name has yet to be released, opened fire. The names of the victims have also not been released. The shooting took place at 202 W. Lincoln Avenue in Orange, Lt. Jennifer Amat, who’s a a spokeswoman for the Orange Police Department, said. Orange, California is located around 30 miles from Los Angeles.
“Today at 5:30pm, the Orange Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at 202 W. Lincoln Ave,” the Orange Police Department wrote in a post to Facebook. “Officers arrived as shots were being fired and located multiple victims at the scene including fatalities. An officer involved shooting occurred. The situation has been stabilized and there is no threat to the public. More details to follow.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom called the shooting “Horrifying and heartbreaking.” He continued, “Our hearts are with the families impacted by this terrible tragedy tonight.”
Orange County Rep. Katie Porter also responded to the tragic news on Twitter, writing, “I’m deeply saddened by reports of a mass shooting in Orange County, and I’m continuing to keep victims and their loved ones in my thoughts as we continue to learn more.”
Mass shootings took place in Atlanta, Georgia and Boulder, Colorado earlier this month within a week of one another. Eight people, six of whom were Asian women, were killed by a gunman at three separate Georgia spa locations while 10 people were killed in Colorado when a man opened fire at a grocery store.
