Win Butler, the frontman of Arcade Fire, has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women.
According to Pitchfork, three women as well as another individual, who identifies as gender-fluid and uses they/them pronouns, allege that Butler sexually assaulted them twice in 2015.
The three women, who were between the ages of 18 and 23 at the time of the sexual interactions, claim Butler made actions toward them that “were inappropriate given the gaps in age, power dynamics, and context in which they occurred,” the publication reports. Butler was between 36 and 39 years old when said incidents took place.
The fourth person alleges Butler assaulted them when they were 21 and he was 34, once in a car and another time at their apartment despite their insistence that they didn’t want Win to come over to their home.
Butler has addressed the allegations, telling Pitchfork that he that the incidents occurred at a time when he was drinking and depressed.
“While these relationships were all consensual, I am very sorry to anyone who I have hurt with my behavior,” he said. “As I look to the future, I am continuing to learn from my mistakes and working hard to become a better person, someone my son can be proud of. […] I’m sorry I wasn’t more aware and tuned in to the effect I have on people – I fucked up, and while not an excuse, I will continue to look forward and heal what can be healed, and learn from past experiences.”
