Nappy Roots’ Fish Scales Recovering After Being Shot and Kidnapped in ATL

Fish Scales, one of the founding members of Nappy Roots, is recovering from injuries sustained during a Wednesday night ambush.
The Atlanta Police Department confirmed the incident took place at around 11 p.m. when the Georgia native—legal name Melvin Adams—was closing a local brewery he co-owns. Authorities say Fish Scales (pictured at far left above) and an unidentified male patron were leaving the establishment when they were approached by two men and robbed at gunpoint.
The other victim reportedly fled on foot, while Fish Scales was forced into his own vehicle and ordered to drive the men to his home in nearby Hapeville. Once they arrived in the city, Fish Scales successfully escaped, but was subsequently shot in the leg. He fled to a nearby home, where the residents alerted police.
The APD says Fish Scales was transported to the hospital in stable condition, and is now on the road to recovery.
Nappy Roots members addressed the incident in an Instagram post Thursday, stating Fish Scales was “in good spirits after suffering a leg injury.”
“Luckily, none of our dedicated patrons of Atlantucky were at the scene or harmed during the robbery,” the Southern rap group wrote. “We are so thankful our brother is safe and on the road to recovery. … Scales also mentioned he is looking forward to getting back to work both on music and brewery.”
Nappy Roots asked the public for some privacy as the police investigate the attack. Authorities say they are still searching for the suspects and described the ambush as an isolated incident.
“Scales is my best friend and my brother and my business partner,” Nappy Roots’ Skinny DeVille told FOX 5. “I just said yesterday, if something happened to him, I’d be devastated, just like if something happened to me, he’d be devastated. […] When I woke up this morning to the news, I was shocked. I didn’t know what to do.”
