NCAA Shuts Down Clemson Player Trevor Lawrence’s GoFundMe for Coronavirus Relief Efforts

Written by on March 24, 2020

Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence and his girlfriend Marissa Mowry helped raise $2,670 for people impacted by COVID-19 through a GoFundMe that was launched on Monday. The very next day, the NCAA shut down the page.

A Clemson official explained to The State that Lawrence and Mowry, who plays soccer at Anderson University, were forced to take down the GoFundMe since it violated an NCAA rule which prohibits a player from using their name, image, and likeness for crowd funding. The money that they were able to raise, however, will go towards Meals on Wheels America and No Kid Hungry.

“Despite all of the craziness and drama with that we were able to raise a little over $2,500. So all of that’s going to go to Meals on Wheels and No Kid Hungry, which is super awesome,” Lawrence said in Mowry’s Instagram Stories. “Thank you guys, all of y’all that donated. It’s really much appreciated. It’s going to help some kids and some elderly [people] somewhere, so it’s going to be very helpful. So we really appreciate y’all. Sorry for all of the drama and all of the confusion but we got it worked out.”
