Nessa Slams NFL for Falsely Listing Colin Kaepernick as ‘Retired’

Written by on May 23, 2020

The newly designed NFL website is stirring up some criticism from Nessa Diab after she discovered that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was falsely listed as “retired” in his profile summary.

Nessa slammed the NFL for the label and reiterated the collusion allegations against the league.

“The @NFL @nflcommish @NFLPA lying on their NFL website claiming @Kaepernick7 ‘retired.’ Colin did NOT retire,” she tweeted with a screenshot of Kaepernick’s designated page. “You cowards blackballed him bc he peacefully protested against police brutality. He’s a Superbowl QB & should be playing bc his stats show that.”

As of press time, Kaepernick’s page still lists him as “retired.”

Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2016 when he opted out of his contract with the 49ers. This came after the quarterback was criticized for conducting on-field protests against police brutality—a demonstration that sparked the #takeaknee movement across sports and venerated him as a social and political activist. He’s remained a free agent ever since.

The 32-year-old filed the collusion grievance against the NFL in 2017, claiming the league had conspired to keep him off the field strictly for political reasons. The case was ultimately settled in 2019; Several months later, Kaepernick held a workout for any NFL team that was interested in signing him.

“I’ve been ready for three years, I’ve been denied for three years …” he told reporters after the workout. “We’re waiting for the 32 owners, the 32 teams, (commissioner of the NFL) Roger Goodell, all of them, to stop running—stop running from the truth, stop running from the people …  I’ve been ready, I’m staying ready, and I’ll continue to be ready … The ball’s in their court. We’re ready to go.”
