Netflix Cancels Steve Carell’s ‘Space Force’ After 2 Seasons

Written by on April 30, 2022

Space Force is leaving orbit.

The Netflix comedy, starring Steve Carell running a new branch of the U.S. military, has been cancelled by the streaming giant after a two-season run, per Deadline. The series was created by Office developer Greg Daniels, and while fans were excited about him reuniting with Carell, it seems things were short lived.

The series, which also starred John Malkovich and Ben Schwartz, saw its final season released on Feb. 18, did not find its way into the Nielsen streaming weekly Top 10 ranking. While it was influenced by the Trump-created military branch, the fictional sixth branch of the Armed Forces couldn’t see enough steam for the show to continue, despite Daniels still going strong with Netflix on projects like Bad Crimes and Exploding Kittens.

“It’s been so fun,” Schwartz previously told Game Rant of getting to know the cast better for Season 2. “Also, we were in Vancouver all together and got to know each other a little better. We had more room this time to play. And so, our hope is that people — when they watch it — will feel the fun of it and will feel the joy and the looseness in us knowing our characters more and getting to play.”

Netflix has also pulled the plug on Raising Dion, which sat higher on the Netflix Originals chart, per Deadline. The superhero drama was produced by Michael B. Jordan.
