Netflix has announced the release date and shared the first look at True Story, a new drama series starring Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes.
Billed as Kevin Hart’s dramatic series debut, True Story follows Hart as famous comedian Kid during a visit to his hometown of Philadelphia. He embarks on an eventful and potentially dangerous night with his older brother Carlton, played by Wesley Snipes. Executive produced by Narcos showrunner Eric Newman and Hart himself, True Story is set to debut on Netflix on Wednesday, Nov. 24.
“This was an opportunity for me to step outside of my norm and partake in a genre of this craft that I never imagined that I would get to,” Hart told Entertainment Weekly in an intereview. “My road to this type of role has been a long one, and I wanted to make sure that it was something that I could do and have my fan base really believe in, respect, and say, ‘We’ve actually witnessed him work his way to get here.’ Doing The Upside was strategic, doing Fatherhood was strategic, and now doing True Story is strategic. This is about me finding new excitement in my craft, in my talent, and putting it on display.”
Stephen Williams, who previously worked on Watchmen and Lost, directed the first four episodes, while Star Trek: Picard alum Hanelle Culpepper handled the last four.
