Netflix Shares New Trailer for ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’

Netflix has unleashed a new trailer for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a new slasher from director David Blue Garcia that—as the title makes clear—stands as the latest installment in the larger Leatherface-focused franchise.
Marking a storytelling decision that will ring as familiar to fans of the Halloween franchise, the new Massacre serves as a direct sequel to the original 1974 classic from Tobe Hooper. The new film sees Leatherface again bringing the terror to a group of friends (played by Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Jacob Latimore, and Neil Hudson) after existing in a state of hiding for nearly five decades.
Olwen Fouéré, notably, has been cast as Sally Hardesty, who fans will recall as the lone survivor from the events of the original film. In the new Massacre, Sally’s desire for revenge is kicked into overdrive after the aforementioned group of friends inadvertently disturb the middle-of-nowhere Texas home of the notorious Leatherface.
“This story will pick it up many, many years after the original story,” Fede Álvarez, who co-wrote the new story with Rodo Sayagues, told Entertainment Weekly on Monday. “He’s been in hiding for a long, long time, trying to be a good person. These people arriving in this town are going to awaken the giant.”
The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre—brought to life by Legendary, Bad Hombre, and Exurbia—hits Netflix on Feb. 18. Catch the trailer up top.
The most recent entry in the TCM franchise was 2017’s Leatherface, helmed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo. That film was written as a prequel to the 1974 original and gave fans what was intended as a backstory on the titular character. Critical reception, however, was mixed.
All told, the TCM franchise now boasts nine entries, including this year’s revival.
