Though Matt Skiba has already given us an arguably more fascinating angle to explore with regards to the Great Fyre Festival Fuckery of 2017, Netflix has stepped in with another wrinkle: a full-blown documentary from the same guy behind the excellent Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond.

Chris Smith’s Fyre was produced in conjunction with Vice Studios, Jerry Media, and Library Films and will give understandably stoked viewers a “first-hand look” at the “disastrous crash.” According to Monday’s reports, this first-hand look will include bits from “the organizers themselves.”

Anyway, the movie drops Jan. 18. Have a viewing party.

“I consider myself a pagan and a witch. With every inch of my energy I wanted Fyre not to happen,” Skiba, who was originally slated to perform at the festival with Blink-182, famously told NME in a 2017 interview.  Ultimately, Skiba added, the event “crumbled to shit” because that’s what it was to begin with. “I didn’t want a bunch of people to be marooned on bullshit island,” he said.

The experience later inspired the Alkaline Trio song “Goodbye Fire Island.”

In November, Fyre Media founder Billy McFarland—who’s currently locked up on fraud charges—shared an apology message from prison. “I’ve always sought — and dreamed — to accomplish incredible things by pushing the envelope to deliver for a common good, but I made many wrong and immature decisions along the way and I caused agony,” he said.
