Nets Reportedly Believe Joel Embiid Should Have Two Flagrant 2 Fouls in Playoffs Series

Written by on April 21, 2019

The series between the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers has been chippy, to say the least. And the Nets in particular think the refs should have been tougher on some of the contact between players. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets believe Joel Embiid should have been assessed Flagrant 2s for his fouls in Games 2 and 4.

Nets GM Sean Marks was so heated over the lack of calls that he stormed into the refs’ locker room, earning a fine and a suspension for the breach of decorum.

In the first case, even Embiid himself feels that he got away with something. He threw a nasty elbow into the face of Jarrett Allen, drawing the ire of Nets players well after the game was over by laughing when he was asked about it. Embiid has since apologized and admitted that he should have been ejected for the foul.

There’s less of a case to be made for a Flagrant 2 in Game 4. Embiid fouled Jarrett Allen again, clubbing him as he drove toward the basket. The foul led to a brawl between Sixers and Nets players, with Jared Dudley and Jimmy Butler getting ejected after the fight spilled into the courtside seats. Embiid threw his hands up as the fight started and walked away from the mess.

You can expect the Nets staff to give refs an earful if Embiid lands a particularly nasty shot during Game 5.
