New Drake Song Sees 21 Savage Turn Will Smith Oscars Slap Into a Punchline
Written by SOURCE on June 17, 2022
Less than a year after joining forces with Drake for Certified Lover Boy smash “Knife Talk,” 21 Savage serves as the only featured artist on the Toronto rapper’s new surprise album Honestly, Nevermind.
The pair team up on closing track “Jimmy Cooks,” which sees 21 Savage deliver a closing verse in which he references the infamous incident of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.
“This Glock 45 came with a switch/If I was Will Smith, I would’ve slapped him with a stick,” 21 raps.
The only true rap song on Honestly, Nevermind, “Jimmy Cooks” marks the fourth collaboration between Drake and 21 Savage, following 2016’s non-album single “Sneakin’,” 2020’s Savage Mode II cut “Mr. Right Now,” and last year’s “Knife Talk.”
With a running time of just 52 and a half minutes, Drake’s seventh studio album is highlighted by production courtesy of Black Coffee, Gordo, Beau Nox, Alex Lustig, Kid Masterpiece, Richard Zastenker, Rampa, &Me, and Klahr, among others. Frequent collaborator 40 also shows up on a pair of tracks, “Overdrive” and “Down Hill.”
“I let my humbleness turn to numbness at times letting time go by knowing I got the endurance to catch it another time,” Drake wrote in a poetic statement attached to the album. “I work with every breath in my body cause it’s the work not air that makes me feel alive.”
