New Movies In Theaters This Month (August 2019)

As we move into the true dog days of summer, heat waves and all, a new movie is still the best way to beat the heat. The Marvel fare might be dying down, just for a second, but there are plenty of other new movies out there and ready for your viewing pleasure. When the urge to go see a film (read: sit in a big, dark, air conditioned box for two hours) hits, get your fix with a new comedy or drama on the big screen. Sure, you’ve got Netflix at home, but going to a movie theater technically means you left your house, and that counts for something, right?

Last month, movie theaters nationwide were graced with the long-awaited The Lion King remake featuring everyone from Beyoncé to John Oliver, plus an entire new Beyoncé album, because of course. We also got the latest installment in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man saga with Spider-Man: Far From Home, and A24’s Midsommar. In August 2019, we’ve got another Fast & Furious film, a 47 Meters Down sequel, and the latest horror fare from acclaimed production company Blumhouse. So while you’re hunkering down and waiting for the next Marvel installment (and likely still recovering from Endgame), why not be a kid again?
